Technology Standards can provide a helpful foundation for teachers as technology becomes a bigger part of the learning environment. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE.org) is a nonprofit organization composed of educators with a keen interest in educational technology. Though there are several sets of standards that define ideal technology integration in education, ISTE standards are very popular and recommended for the following reasons.

ISTE standards are:
  1. designed to be universal. They can be used with any grade level, subject, or teaching style.
  2. revised every few years to keep up with technology trends in Education.
  3. general, yet specific. The standards have 6 general targets, with specific activities or skill sets below to help the reader gain a clear understanding of the desired goal.
  4. personal. There is a separate set of standards for teachers, students, administration, technology coaches, and technology teachers.
  5. user friendly. These standards are written to be short and sweet, so they can be posted, printed, or memorized
